The objectives of the educational programs of the American Bladesmith Society are to inform and educate knife makers and the public about the art, science, technology, history, and culture relating to forged edged tools, weapons, and artifacts, and the proper care and use of these objects.

George is a proud member of TBG.                                                     - Central Virginia Blacksmith Guild - CVBG is an affiliate group of ABANA  The Guild serves Richmond, Fredericksburg, Petersburg, Williamsburg, Charlottesville and the surrounding areas.
  - The Blacksmith's Guild of the Potomac -Affiliate of ABANA, located in Northern Virginia and serve members living in the Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland area, stretching into Pennsylvania and West Virginia.  Serving South Central and Western Virginia Blacksmiths Including but not limited to areas near Appomattox, Lynchburg, Danville, South Boston, Martinsville, Rocky Mount, Stuart, Ferrum, Floyd, Bedford and Roanoke.                                                                                                                                               


    The Virginia Institute of Blacksmithing located in Wayesboro, Virginia is the only artistic blacksmithing trade school certified to operate by the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia. VIB offers beginning level weekend classes for hobby blacksmiths as well as a year long Certificate of Artistic Blacksmithing for those seeking to pursue a career in the field. VIB also offers weekend workshops in beginning bladesmithing and MIG welding. For more advanced students, there are annual week long intensive courses taught by visiting instructors from the States and abroad.  -Lee is an excellent Blacksmith, sculptor and well known in the Blacksmith community for his work, research and publications on bloomery smelting of iron. He teaches classes all over the globe on smelting and other topics . He is one of the very talented smiths featured in the documentary video : " Ore to Axe" in which they take you on the journey of finding ore, making charcoal. building a furnace, smelting the ore to iron, converting the iron to steel, and finally forging the axe. The Metal Museum is the only institution in the United States devoted exclusively to the art and craft of fine metalwork. Unlike conventional art museums, it isn't just a place where art is displayed; it's a place where art is made. At the Metal Museum you can see works of art, see artists work, learn the craft and craft the art.
