3 Day Basic Blacksmithing Classes 2023
******REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR ALL 3 DAY CLASSES IS 2 DAYS BEFORE THE CLASS IS COMMENCES*******
In this 3 day intensive Blacksmithing course, aspiring smiths will learn under George Cramer (S1E7 Discovery’s Master of Arms Champion) the basic essential techniques to be able to produce an array of items.
DAY 1 Fundamental skills - fire starting and management, drawing, spreading and fullering, cutting, cold punching and chiseling, upsetting, bending, twisting, filing and metal finishing. Heating and cooling to effect metal characteristics and proper shop practice and safety will constantly be reinforced.
Projects: Hand forged hook, meat flipper with bottle opener, skewer/ poker, rivet, and a leaf.
Days 2&3 Students will design and forge project of their own making. They will be lead through the process of design, material estimates, layout and execution. Students will have the choice of on-hand materials to create their project . Past student projects have included: fireplace tools, campfire tripods, floral designs, wine racks, candle holders, herb choppers, bottle openers, axes, knives, tools,etc,etc,etc…. You arrive with curiosity and leave with a major sense of accomplishment as well as items YOU design and build. You’ll laugh and learn more than you ever thought possible as you experience what it is like to create something with your own hands from raw materials, with hammer and anvil, fire and steel!
Materials and tools provided. Though the Village Blacksmith provides basic safety gear, students are encouraged to bring their own eye and ear protection.

Disclaimer : Though we hold safety in high regard, this work can be potentially dangerous. Participants will need to sign a Hold Harmless agreement prior to class.
All students are required to wear leather boots (steel toe preferred) and cotton, wool or other flame retardant clothing. ( no polyester or plastic based clothing)
All other safety gear will be provided, students can bring their own eye/hearing protection and gloves, and tools if they wish.
Students under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
